City of Decatur Homestead Exemption

The general homestead exemption reduces the taxable value of your property which reduces the amount of your City property tax bill.

To qualify, you must own and reside at the property as of January 1 of the current year and the property must be your principal residence.

If you meet these qualifications, you may submit your application online. The information will be verified and the exemption will be added to your City tax file. You do not need to re-apply each year.

HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION APPLICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.  Applications received January 2-March 1 will be applied to the current tax year.  Applications received after March 1 will be applied to the next tax year.  If you purchased your home after January 1 of the current year, the exemption will be applied to the next tax year.
