1. When will work on the park start and when will it finish? Construction on the new pool house is currently underway and should be finished by Memorial Day Weekend 2009 when the pool reopens to the public. Work on all of the other park improvements will begin the week of March 23rd and should be finished by the end of this year. 2. Why is access to the park, existing parking and pedestrian access through the park being closed? The park renovation includes the removal of the existing driveways, parking lots and major work along the streambed. Heavy equipment and grading in this area throughout the project makes it impossible for the park to remain open. 3. Where can I park during the construction? The City is removing one travel lane in either direction along Church Street to create on-street parking for use by swimming pool and tennis center patrons. 4. How will I get to the tennis center during construction? Access to the center will be located on Church Street through an area north of the swimming pool. A new gate will be added at the northwest corner of the tennis courts to allow patrons to reach the tennis center through the tennis courts. This will require patrons to occasionally wait to cross the courts will players finish playing a point. However, this solution, while an inconvenient, allowed us to keep the Glenlake tennis center and courts open throughout the construction process. 5. While the tennis courts ever be closed during construction? Currently we do not intend to close the courts during the Glenlake Park Renovation. We hope that by managing the construction project and schedule efficiently and effectively that we will have enough money remaining to resurface the tennis courts. This improvement would be scheduled around tennis seasons to create as little disruption as possible. 6. How can I find out more information about the park improvements? Visit the City of Decatur’s website at www.decaturga.com/glenlakemasterplan.aspx or you can contact Hugh Saxon at 678-553-6507.
