The City of Decatur is developing a master plan to direct future improvements to the city’s 50 year old recreation center. As part of the process, the City will conduct a series of public input sessions over the next few months to identify program needs and priorities for the building. The first session was held on Tuesday, Dec. 9 and focused on a review of the existing facility, an overview of recreation/community center facilities in similar communities and invited public discussion around a series of questions.

The purpose of the meeting was to get ideas about how to improve the existing building to respond to current program needs and identify improvements to the building that would allow it to provide additional programs desired by residents. As we work through the process, we will filter out ideas that are not feasible for the building or at this location and begin to refine plans based on budget and feasibility. Additional meetings will be scheduled after the first of the year to report back on the public input and get help in focusing the plan.
