The City of Decatur is actively following the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.  We are monitoring public health information for any potential impact in our community. Posted April 12, 2022: Based on current data and trends, the City of Decatur will move to Phase IV of the reopening plan on Monday, May 2, 2022 opening all buildings for public access. No appointment required.

Posted March 2, 2022: At its special called meeting, Wednesday, March 2, the Decatur City Commission voted to allow the Face Cover ordinance requiring individuals to wear masks and protective coverings during the COVID-19 pandemic to expire. This Ordinance will expire at 11:59 p.m. on March 2, 2022.

Posted June 7, 2021: City buildings are now open to the public, by appointment only, with added regulations for COVID-19 safety.

Posted May 21, 2021: Decatur outdoor pools will open for daily swim Saturday, May 29. Glenlake and McKoy will be open 7 days a week from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Ebster will open 10am - 3:45 p.m. during the month of June due to swim team practice. Oakhurst indoor pool will open June 1.

Posted May 21, 2021: The City of Decatur is beginning to re-open its facilities and resume municipal activities in a phased approach. The city is tracking several COVID-related data points and trends and following CDC guidelines as it moves forward in providing COVID-safe activities and facilities.

Posted Jan. 12, 2021: Georgia’s COVID-19 case rates are climbing following the holiday season. Recent data show that our current case rate per 100,000 residents in Georgia is the highest it has been since the start of the pandemic and at least 60% higher than the summer surge. Until you are eligible to receive the vaccine, continue to protect yourself and others by practicing the 3 W's: watch your space, wash your hands and wear a mask. Remember the people you want to gather with are likely the same people you want most to protect. Avoiding indoor gatherings now can keep you and others safe.

Posted Oct. 22: Effective Now Until September 7, 2021

The Decatur City Commission passed a temporary Weekend Open Container Ordinance that allows restaurants to sell alcoholic beverages in open containers within the boundaries of the five business districts. The temporary ordinance expires Sunday, April 18 at 1 a.m. The ordinance allows the sales on Fridays from 4 p.m. – 1 a.m. and Saturdays from 3 p.m. – 1 a.m. every week.

 

Posted July 10: Decatur outdoor pools will open for daily swim Saturday, July 11, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Oakhurst indoor pool will remain closed at this time.

Update: The Decatur mask ordinance will expire June 21, 2021 at midnight. Please note that masks are still required in all City buildings.

Posted July 10: The Decatur City Commission approved an ordinance requiring individuals to wear masks and protective coverings during the COVID-19 pandemic at a special called meeting Friday, July 10. The ordinance is effective starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, and will remain in place until midnight on August 17, 2020, or until it is extended, rescinded, or amended by the City Commission. 

Due to the Public Health State of Emergency this meeting will be held remotely.
 
There will not be a physical location for members of the public to attend. Members of the public may access the meeting in one of two ways:

Posted June 29: In order to continue to protect the health and safety of our employees and community, City of Decatur office buildings will remain closed to the public until further notice.

Posted June 29: Ebster Recreation Center, Decatur Recreation Center, McKoy Skate Park, Legacy Park gym and Decatur pools (including Oakhurst Indoor pool) remain closed until further notice.

Posted May 11: Effective immediately, testing is available to all Georgians who request it, whether they have symptoms or not. There are more than 65 specimen point of collection sites (SPOC) throughout the state, with an additional 30 mobile SPOCs - locations and hours vary daily.

Posted May 4: The City of Decatur has decided to cancel all planned summer camps for this summer. This includes Legacy Park Day Camp, all E Camps, sports camps, tennis, and swim camps offered by the City of Decatur’s Children and Youth Services and Active Living divisions.

Posted May 1: Although the Governor’s shelter-in-place order expired at midnight on April 30 there are preventive measures that continue to be required and necessary to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Posted April 24: Mayor Patti Garrett strongly encourages Decatur businesses to make their decision to re-open carefully based on their ability to adhere to the social distancing guidelines and the guidance of the CDC in order to continue keeping the community as well as the employees safe.

Updated January 25: On Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at 5:00 p.m., the Municipal Court commenced operation of Virtual Court proceedings to address court resets and pending citations.

Posted on April 3: Yesterday, Governor Kemp signed a statewide shelter-in-place order. The order goes into effect ‪at 6 p.m. today, Friday, April 3, 2020, and will expire ‪at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2020. This preempts previously issued orders by cities and counties.

Posted March 27: Decatur Mayor Patti Garrett issued an emergency order on March 27, 2020 that extends the grace period for paying the first installment of Decatur 2020 property taxes to July 15, 2020. Tax bills will be mailed the week of March 30 and due June 1, 2020. With the extended grace period, no penalties and interest will be applied if the principal is paid by July 15, 2020.

Posted March 24: Decatur Mayor Patti Garrett issued an Emergency Stay At Home Order in order to slow the spread of COVID-19 to the maximum extent possible. The Order goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. on March 25, 2020 and stays in effect for 14 days until 11:59 p.m. on April 7 unless extended further or rescinded.

Posted March 24: Public Parks in the City of Decatur remain open. Adherence to the following guidelines is imperative to protect the safety and health of our community during this public health emergency

Posted March 20: On March 19, a Decatur City Hall employee notified management that they had tested positive for COVID-19. The employee is in an administrative position and typically has limited interactions with the public. 

Posted March 19: On Thursday, March 19, City of Decatur Mayor Patti Garrett issued a Public Health Emergency Order that prohibits on-premises dining at restaurants; allows take-out and delivery services between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily; and allows restaurants with a current alcoholic beverage license to sell beverages for off-premises consumption in sealed containers; and prohibits gatherings of more than 50 persons.

At the March 16, 2020 meeting, the City Commission passed a Resolution declaring a Public Health State of Emergency in the City of Decatur. In introducing the Resolution Mayor Patti Garrett noted that while there has been a State of Emergency declared at both the state and the national level, it assures the city is able to work at the local level in a very quick and expedient manner if necessary.

Posted Monday, March 16: In order to continue to protect the health and safety of our employees and community, City of Decatur office buildings are closed to the public beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17. 

Posted Sunday, March 15: Recognizing the need to govern the City while also following the guidance from public health officials for responsible social distancing, at their Monday, March 16 meeting, the Decatur City Commissioners will limit their participation to a quorum of three City Commission members.

The City Commission meeting for Monday, March 16 will remain scheduled as planned, however, we encourage interested parties to view the live broadcast at https://www.decaturga.com/streamingvideo. In lieu of in-person “Public Comment on Agenda Items” and “Requests and Petitions”, you may submit questions and comments via email by 5 p.m.
