City of Decatur Municipal Court Is Operating Virtually

The City of Decatur Municipal Court suspended live courtroom proceedings March 2020 under a statewide Judicial Emergency Order issued by the Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court to address the COVID-19 pandemic and safety concerns.  Chief Justice Harold Melton extended the Statewide Emergency Order and Circuit Chief Judge Asha Jackson extended the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit Order through February 7, 2021.  This is the tenth extension of the Emergency Order.  The City of Decatur Municipal has extended its Emergency Order consistent with these orders and will continue to do so until further notice.

However, on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 5:00 a.m., the Municipal Court commenced operation of Virtual Court proceedings to address court resets and pending citations. Information for scheduled virtual proceedings will post to the city website and will be available to the public via streaming.  For citation-holders interested in resolving their case via virtual court, a Virtual Court Registration form is available at the Court‘s webpage for your convenience in requesting a virtual court date to resolve your case, if possible.  Citation-holders will also be notified of scheduled reset dates by mail at the last address on record.  If there has been an address change or update since the citation was issued, citation-holders should notify the court immediately at 404-678-553-6655.  More information and update about the City of Decatur Municipal Court’s Virtual Court initiative will be posted to the Court’s webpage as it becomes available.

Please be advised that the Municipal Court will return to the live courtroom when it’s safe to do so and will employ COVID-19 CDC safety protocols.  However, a return is not contemplated before March, 2021, and we will work virtually until then to resolve Court matters.
